Mental Discipline & Dreams
«To begin to master the concept of mental discipline it is necessary to examine the self. The polarity of your dimension must be internalized. Where you find patience within your mind you must consciously find the corresponding impatience and vice versa. Each thought that a being has, has in its turn an antithesis. The disciplines of the mind involve, first of all, identifying both those things of which you approve and those things of which you disapprove within yourself, and then balancing each and every positive and negative charge with its equal. The mind contains all things. Therefore, you must discover this completeness within yourself.» – Ra (Session 5, “The Ra Contact” ©2018 by L/L Research (Louisville, KY))
Sometimes we are so unbalanced that it is easy to see one extreme end of our imbalance, while the other end of the scale is very difficult to observe. For example, one can be so impatient that this person is well aware of this trait and there is no need to point it out when his/her impatience is expressed. But at the same time, it can be quite challenging to accept the idea that everyone contains both: thesis and antithesis. In this example, the person may not be able to clearly see where the other side of this “impatience-patience” spectrum is expressed in his/her life, i.e., in which situations this normally impatient person may show a high degree of patience (and vice versa).
In these cases, dreams can be very helpful, because they will show what the dreamer needs to see in order to know him/herself better, especially if this trait is out of balance. But in most cases dreams will present these answers in the form of metaphors, using symbolic imagery. For example, the dream may involve another character in its scenario – someone known to the dreamer as a very patient person. And if this is the main purpose of the dream – to point to the quality of “patience” through the character who symbolizes this quality – then the rest of the dream work would be to find the situation in the dreamer’s present life that the dream scenario represents. Situations like this happen all the time, when a previously unnoticed trait is expressed in real life, but remains unnoticed unless the dreamer becomes interested in interpreting the corresponding dream and deciphering its message.
For someone interested in learning the disciplines of the mind that the Law of One teaches, working with dreams can be as helpful as daily meditation or any other practice aimed at self-discovery and personal growth.
